Topic: Yixing companies

Does anyone know the history of 金鼎商标?
I heard it was founded in 1919, but I'm not sure. But what was then? Did it exist only in the firs half of the century?
I'm interested, because I have seen a lot of teapots, that were declared to be from 70-80', and they had a company logo on them. Also there are a lot of modern products with the logo. So, are they copies? Or company still exists?
If you have any source of information or know something it would be great.

Re: Yixing companies

I found a nice article here on a web log:
http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/kunson-home/ … amp;fid=32

The 金鼎商标 belonged to a man named 吴汉文 who sold ceramics. His pots, like many at the time which were custom made, had a company trademark seal on the bottom. The artist's name was also often included. His company, 吴德盛紫砂陶器行 was started in 1916. Until the late 20's his seal involved the three characters Wu De Sheng. He made the Jinding Shangbiao in the late 20's. His company went out of business in 1939.

I don't think there were any companies in the 1970's besides the number one and number two factories, however, they did make custom pots and copies of old ones (孟臣 for example)

Maybe someone has resurrected this brand, this sometimes happens. I guess they must all be copies if they are not from 1920s-30s, but I can't vouch for this article. I didn't do any other research. Let me know if you find anything else out. I had never heard of this seal before reading your post.

Hard to say... I think modern products with this logo are just inspired by the old company.
But I saw some Zhu Ni teapots from Houde Tea, that were declared to be from 80'.. and had this seal on them.
I searched the whole internet (including blog you mentioned :) ) but I didn't find anything about this company after 1939...

Hello guys,
By chance, does anyone know about the 尚古堂 (Shang Gutang) pottery studio? As I searched it online, there are two type of its marks, one is a square affixed with "尚古堂制" and one is engraved with "尚古堂" in written form.
Thank you for any information about it.
